Where exactly is the University of Strathclyde?

In Glasgow, Scotland. Strathclyde Business School is one of the 4 faculties of the University of Strathclyde which was founded in 1796. A Royal Charter University, Strathclyde is the third largest University in Scotland, and the largest centre of postgraduate education in the UK. The vision statement of the University is “The Place of Useful Learning” which it adopted at its founding in 1796.

In December 2012, The University of Strathclyde was named the UK University of the Year 2012/2013 in the Times Higher Education Awards and in 2019 received the same title for the 2nd time. Judges described Strathclyde as a “bold, imaginative and innovative institution” and the University earned praise for its close links with business and industry and commitment to making an impact on the global economy

Strathclyde Business School is one of the oldest, largest and most respected Business Schools in the UK. It has been consistently ranked in the top 10 Business Schools in the UK in terms of both research and teaching quality, and is a pioneer in the field of management education being the first UK Business School to offer a:

  • One year Full-time MBA programme (1966)
  • ‘Part-time’ MBA programme in the UK (1976)
  • ‘Distance Learning’ MBA in the UK (1983)
  • ‘International Part-time’ MBA (1988 – Hong Kong/Malaysia/Singapore)
  • ‘Credit-based’ MBA (1995)

What makes University of Strathclyde Business School stand out from other schools? Why should somebody choose to study in the University of Strathclyde Business School?

We offer a highly regarded MBA which has continued to be so over the last 50 years. Strathclyde was the first business school in Scotland, and one of just five in the UK, to be awarded the Small Business Charter Gold Award; we are triple accredited and have been for over a decade; we are highly rated for our research – we were ranked first in Scotland an in the top 10 business schools in the UK for our research in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) which measures the quality and breadth of research (Dec 2014); and of course we are now UK Business School of the Year.

All of this comes from our close links with business and our dedication to providing practical, modern business education. Our Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, endowed by Sir Tom Hunter, is a key component of the Scottish entrepreneurial ecosystem, while our individual departments also hold internationally-recognized industry accreditations – our Human Resource Management department is a CIPD-approved Centre, our Accounting & Finance department is accredited by CIMA and ICAS; while our Marketing department is accredited by bodies such as the Institute of Export and Chartered Institute of Marketing.

We have recently launched programmes to reflect current business needs, such as Masters programmes in Entrepreneurship Innovation and Technology; Project Management and Innovation; Global Energy Management; and Global Sustainable Cities. New programmes this year will include MSc in Financial Technology and MSc in Data Analytics.

Students choosing Strathclyde can be assured they are gaining a prestigious qualification from a renowned business school

MBA Programme Content

The Strathclyde MBA in Athens has two intakes per year, one starting in April and the other in October.

The programme is launched with an initial intensive seminar (Programme Seminar/Learning Manager and/or Business Game).

This is followed by regular two or three day seminars (about twice a month, on a weekend and one evening per week). You can stay 100% in your job while you are doing the Strathclyde MBA.

Participants are required to complete a range of preparatory tasks and readings both from published materials and materials specially commissioned by Strathclyde Business School before seminars. In each subject, the seminars are led by faculty from the University of Strathclyde Business School and will focus on the key theories, principles, case studies, and practical applications of the area under discussion.

The Strathclyde MBA is not just a business programme, it’s a stimulating, challenging, life-changing experience, which will make you question, re-think and re-evaluate how you do business. It is highly experiential and based on collaborative learning. Students share their varied work experiences, knowledge, understanding and skills.

The MBA will shape and guide you as a reflective, open- thinking, adaptive learner. This is facilitated through enhanced understanding of the interplay of theory and practice in management. In particular it:

  • Provides the skills required for progression to higher level policy-forming positions
  • Allows you to make successful career transitions
  • Facilitates the move from technical specialism to general management
  • Polishes the skills and enhances the abilities of people working for themselves or about to set up in business

We believe that we offer one of the best MBA learning experiences in the world. A bold statement, but one we believe we can justify. We are educational pioneers – and the Strathclyde MBA, the first full time one year MBA programme in the UK – has been continually evolving, improving and striving to reflect current practice since 1966. We are one of only less than 1% business schools in the world to hold international accreditation from the 3 business education hallmarks of excellence – AMBAAACSB and EQUIS.

We consistently demonstrate excellence in the quality of our teaching, research and knowledge exchange, and our drive and motivation to continue to improve is boundless. The results of the most recent UK Research Assessment Exercise 2014 (RAE) affirmed our school as a leader for “world leading and internationally excellent” research, with SBS being rated top for research in Scotland – by a long way – and among top-10 in the UK.
